In a bold and sweeping move, all UIL high schools in Texas have been ruled to have at least one external defibrillator on campus as of Aug.1 2007, ruled by the UIL Legislative Council. The ruling also requires that a plan be in place to implement, coordinate, and maintain the AED's by the same time line.
The ruling comes after several high profile Texas student athletes suddenly died or collapsed while training or competing in high school athletic events in the past few months.
The AED mandate also follows Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst's announcement that he will ask Texas legislators to require all the state's 8,000 schools to have an AED on hand.
DRE carries a full line of new external defibrillators and refurbished defibrillators from manufactures such as Phillips, Zoll, HP, Powerheart, Medtronic, Welch Allyn, and Defibtech

Midmark is buying back physicians' manual exam tables as health care providers upgrade to what is quickly becoming the new industry standard for efficient patient care: Barrier-Free™ exam tables. Many physicians are equipping their offices with at least one of these accessible tables, which enable patients to easily get on and off the exam tables with little or no help, increasing efficiency, safety and comfort in the exam room for the physician, staff and patient. Equipping a practice with Barrier-Free tables also helps protect the practice from disability complaints and lawsuits. As part of Midmark's Barrier- Free promotion, physicians who purchase a Midmark or Ritter Barrier-Free exam table between October 1, 2006 and November 30, 2006, and take delivery by December 31, 2006, can request that Midmark purchase their old examination table for $750.

Those in the market for patient monitors might find themselves describing the new Precision Series from DRE the same way they would a new plasma screen television: they feature cutting-edge technology, modern design cues and high resolution screens that offer unparalleled sharpness and clarity.
The Precision series is suitable for a variety of medical environments. Hospitals will see benefit from the striking aesthetics and large, color TFT displays that provide excellent viewing from a distance or at an angle. Medium to smaller centers, practices, and clinics will value the features as well as the affordable price tags.
The clarity of these monitors is surpassed in appeal only by their superior quality and seamless efficacy. The Vida multi-parameter monitor, for example, is equipped to handle pulse oximetry, respiration, temperature monitoring, capnography, invasive and non-invasive blood pressure, ECG monitoring and anesthesia gas monitoring, and where the Vida exceeds in versatility, the Signal compact pulse oximeter exceeds in portability and operating time. The Signal weighs less than 8 pounds (3.5 kg) and can operate for upwards of 4 hours on a 6 hour charge. Equally portable, the Waveline packs the versatility of the Vida into a 16-pound portable monitor with all the capabilities of a top tier multi-parameter monitor. For those in need of a lighter unit when invasive blood pressure isn't a must, the Trax vital sign transport monitor is the perfect unit for monitoring on-the-go.
Built in the United States, the Precision Series is available exclusively at www.DREmed.com.
