Chief Executive Art Collins has announced that Medtronic, makers of the Medtronic defibrillator known as the Medtronic physio control and Medtronic lifepak, will head into the implantable cardioverter defibrillator market.
Collins estimated that his company could get up to 35 percent penetration in the market for ICDs, which are used to treat dangerously fast heart rates that occur in the lower chambers of the heart.
Medtronic is one of three ICD makers, along with Boston Scientific and St. Jude, all of which have struggled with falling ICD sales.
