DRE AV-S Ventilator Now Has Multiple Spontaneous Breathing Modes

DRE, Inc. — recently named a Company of the Year by Business First of Louisville — continues expanding its DRE Integra AV-S Anesthesia Workstation to have all functions essential for today’s surgery environment. The core of the Integra AV-S is the easy-to-use AV-S ventilator, which now provides three advanced spontaneous breathing modes, including SIMV and SMMV.

The DRE AV-S Touchscreen Anesthesia Ventilator is designed for all patient types. It has a clearly-labeled, simple layout that helps surgeons make quick decisions on the fly, even in the most hectic operating environments. It features a user-friendly touchscreen and comes standard with comprehensive support modes, including SIMV and SMMV.

The AV-S ventilator’s Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation (SIMV) and Synchronized Mandatory Minute Ventilation (SMMV) functions can be utilized as patients attempt to breathe spontaneously. Patient recovery is accelerated by increased tidal volume and SpO2, and reduced EtCO2.

The AV-S ventilator’s SIMV function provides a minimum level of volume, and allows spontaneous breaths and set mandatory breaths. When anesthesiologists utilize SIMV for spontaneously breathing patients, negative pressure (relative to PEEP) in the Trigger Window results in a synchronized mandatory breath at a preset volume and rate. When SIMV is utilized for non-breathing patients, a mandatory breath, at the end of the Trigger Window, will still be delivered at the preset volume and rate.

The AV-S ventilator’s SMMV function provides a set level of minute volume ventilation and allows spontaneous breaths, combined with a synchronized mandatory breath, to achieve the set minute volume. When anesthesiologists utilize SMMV for spontaneously breathing patients, negative pressure (relative to PEEP) in the Trigger Window results in a synchronized mandatory breath, allowing the set minute volume to be achieved. When SMMV is utilized for non-breathing patients, a mandatory breath, at the end of the Trigger Window, will still be delivered at the preset minute volume and rate.

In addition to SIMV and SMMV, the AV-S ventilator features Pressure Supported Ventilation, or PSV. PSV assists each spontaneous breath with a preset pressure, reducing the effort required to breathe. Negative pressure (relative to PEEP), generated by the patient’s spontaneous breath, results in synchronized pressure support. PSV is used to support spontaneously breathing patients only.

The AV-S ventilator is a core component of the DRE Integra AV-S, DRE’s durable, easy-to-use anesthesia workstation. The Integra AV-S has an open architecture, is perfect for ultra-low flow and is backed by a manufacturer that has never discontinued service for its anesthesia machines or ventilators.

“The DRE Integra AV-S includes a two-year warranty and costs as much as $20,000 less than competing anesthesia workstations,” says Tim Jarm, DRE’s chief operating officer. “With its low cost of ownership, the DRE Integra AV-S can provide surgery centers with an annual savings of up to 40 percent on supplies and replacement parts.”

The affordable, low maintenance DRE Integra AV-S features the high performance, autoclavable A200SP absorber, which provides an efficient CO2 absorption module and integrated, permanent spirometry sensors that don’t have to be replaced year after year.

The DRE Integra Series includes the Integra SP I and SP II, both of which are fully-featured, customizable and specifically designed for low flow. The DRE Integra Series also includes the Integra SP VSO2, a compact, portable anesthesia machine that fits nearly every surgery environment.

In addition to DRE Integra Series Anesthesia Machines, DRE’s exclusive brand of surgical and medical equipment includes the DRE Waveline Plus Vital Signs Monitor, DRE ASG Series Electrosurgical Generators and the DRE Maxx Luxx II Operating Room Lighting System.

Business First Selects DRE as a Company of the Year

After naming DRE the 17th fastest growing business in Louisville, Business First of Louisville has named DRE a 2008 Company of the Year.

Business of the Year Award DRE, Inc. — a premier international medical and surgical equipment supplier — has been named by Business First of Louisville as a 2008 Company of the Year. The award caps the most successful three-year period in DRE’s history.

“In the last three years, DRE achieved a cumulative revenue growth of 90 percent,” says Tim Jarm, DRE’s chief operating officer. “DRE’s growth is due in part to our competitive mix of low-cost professionally refurbished medical equipment and dependable DRE-brand equipment.”

Jarm expects affordable DRE-brand and professionally refurbished equipment to be popular in 2009, as many ambulatory surgery centers, oral/maxillofacial surgeons and other healthcare facilities will need to maximize limited budgets.

“Our products cost significantly less than equipment from competing companies,” says Jarm. “Healthcare facilities looking to save money in 2009 should take a look at our product mix, which includes the DRE Waveline Plus vital signs monitor and the DRE Integra AV-S anesthesia workstation.”

In recent years, DRE has harnessed its lineup of refurbished equipment — which includes operating room lights, surgical tables and anesthesia machines — to strengthen its market share in the United States and throughout the world, with particular success in the Middle East, Latin America and Southeast Asia. In the United States, many healthcare educators are turning to DRE’s economically-priced equipment to provide their students with hands-on training.

In 2008, DRE expanded its online store, ORSupply.com, to become the largest online marketplace for surgical supplies and medical devices. ORSupply.com added products from Littman, Heine and Miltex, and redesigned its interface to allow customers to search, find and instantly purchase medical accessories with only a few clicks — no purchasing group or supply contract needed.

In addition to success in medical markets, DRE is rapidly expanding its veterinary division by selling products essential to veterinarian hospitals and clinics, universities, and research facilities. DRE Veterinary recently released exclusive lines of wet tables, exam tables, grooming tables and surgery tables. DRE Veterinary has also expanded its selection of supplies and accessories available for online purchase at www.dreveterinary.com.

DRE received its Company of the Year award at Business First of Louisville’s Business of the Year award ceremony on December 12, 2008. At its Fast 50 award ceremony in October 2008, Business First of Louisville named DRE the 17th fastest growing business in Louisville. DRE’s 2008 placement is up eight spots from 2007, when DRE placed 25th on the Fast 50 list.

DRE Offers Valuable Discounts to GE Healthcare Customers

Following GE Healthcare’s announcement that it will discontinue several key anesthesia systems, DRE is offering generous trade-in allowances to Ohmeda customers.

DRE, Inc., a premier international surgical and medical equipment supplier, recently introduced a trade-in program for owners of Ohmeda Excel, Excel SE and Modulus SE anesthesia systems.

The program was introduced following the announcement of GE Healthcare’s intentions to discontinue three popular anesthesia systems: the Excel, Excel SE and the Modulus SE. GE has also announced plans to discontinue a variety of ventilators and their GMS absorber.

DRE created the trade-in program to provide a cost-effective alternative to the more expensive machines. Based on the condition of the trade-in, DRE will issue a trade-in allowance towards the purchase of either a new DRE Integra Series anesthesia machine or a newly refurbished Ohmeda or Drager unit.

DRE Integra Series anesthesia machines provide a high level of features and benefits in a cost-effective, easy-to-use package designed to meet the most demanding of anesthesia requirements. At a fraction of the cost of competing machines, each Integra Series workstation comes equipped with all of the essential requirements needed for today’s surgeon, including pressure support ventilation for laryngeal mask airways and pressure control volume guaranteed ventilation for minimally invasive surgery.

DRE provides a combination of new and professionally refurbished or used medical equipment to industry professionals around the globe. DRE offers value to doctors by providing the features and reliability they need while still fitting within their budget.
