DRE Helps Surgery Centers in New York Obtain Accreditation

DRE offers assistance to office-based surgery centers by providing affordable refurbished new medical equipment.

On January 14, 2008, a New York State law went into effect that will require office-based surgery (OBS) centers to be fully accredited by a nationally recognized agency determined by the New York State Commissioner of Health. To obtain and maintain accreditation, OBS centers will be required to possess medical and surgical equipment that increase patient safety.

DRE, Inc., a premier distributor of new and refurbished medical equipment, is able to supply OBS centers with equipment needed to obtain and maintain accreditation. According to Ben Gill, a Division Manager at DRE, the company’s refurbished equipment is attractive to OBS centers with fixed budgets.

“New York surgery centers can save a great deal of money when they buy refurbished equipment from DRE,” says Gill. “This could help them obtain and maintain accreditation for less than they would spend on new equipment.”

In addition to refurbished equipment, DRE sells a variety of affordable new equipment that could help OBS centers achieve accreditation. Factory-new products include the DRE Waveline Plus Vitals Signs Monitor, DRE Integra SP II Anesthesia System, and DRE Maxx Luxx II Operating Room Lights.

Once requirements of the law go into effect, affected OBS centers may be required to posses one of each of the following: An autoclave, operating room table or chair, proper surgical lighting, vital signs monitor with CO2, defibrillator or AED, sequential compression device, airway management kit, EKG machine, anesthesia machine, ventilator, standalone SpO2 monitor, crash cart, and blanket warmer.

OBS centers to which the law is applicable must be accredited by an agency approved by the Commissioner of Health by July 14, 2009. OBS centers that may need to become accredited include oral/maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, urological surgery, ambulatory surgery, and cosmetic surgery centers. OBS centers interested in purchasing equipment from DRE can view the company’s complete product listings at the company’s website.
