A charity event held in Bahrain raised approximately BD140,000 for medical equipment, according to British politician George Galloway, who headlined Monday’s Palestine Support Society dinner and auction.
The auction featured 12 abstract paintings created by several of Bahrain’s top artists. In addition to the BD38,950 raised by this auction, table bookings and donations raised the the remainder of the evening’s proceeds.
The money that was raised will be used to provide essential emergency medical equipment identified by Health Ministry officials in Palestine.
According to Palestine Support Society vice-president and event organizer Hisham Sater, every precaution is being taken to ensure that the hospital equipment reaches the needy and none of the money is wasted.
The equipment to be purchased was identified by the Health Ministry. The equipment will include respiratory ventilators, anesthesia machines, and portable X-ray machines for adults and children. The equipment is expected to arrive in Palestine within weeks, but could take longer depending on a number of procedures which must be followed to complete the purchase and delivery of these items.
