LED Lighting Options from DRE Meet Industry Demands for Economy and Sustainability

The Maxx Luxx LED is DRE's premier surgical light

Medical professionals are incorporating LED lights into their operating rooms in increasing numbers, for good reasons.

LED surgical lights increase the amount of light while maintaining a cool temperature, all for almost half of the energy used for traditional halogen bulbs. LEDs also maximize longevity, giving clinicians years of dependable use.

In 2009, Millenium Research Group projected that 100 percent of European clinicians will have switched from halogen to LED lights by next year.

“LED lights represented approximately 60 percent of European surgical light sales in 2009, but will completely overtake the market by 2014,” the report stated.

MRG cited European doctors’ commitment to environmentally sustainable practices as one of the reasons for the wide-sweeping trend.

In the United States, researchers are also expecting clinicians to start adopting LED lighting systems. The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory completed a study for the U.S. Department of Energy in 2011, where they touted the benefits of LEDs — and physicians’ interest in them.

According to the study, many members of the Hospital Energy Alliance were eager to explore the benefits of LED lighting at the time.

Since the beginning of their popularity a few years ago, LEDs have become an integral part to common medical practices. The technology has moved beyond Europe and energy-conscious medical organizations to hospitals and practices everywhere.

DRE is committed to helping physicians keep up with medical trends, so the company offers different options for those wishing to incorporate LED surgical lights.

The DRE Maxx Luxx LED Surgical Light provides exceptional bright light with a lux output of more than 120,000 and a color temperature of 4,300° Kelvin while virtually eliminating heat. The Maxx Luxx is rated for 50,000 hours of use.

The Maxx Luxx is the primary model for surgical lighting from DRE, but the company also offers smaller devices with more specific applications.

For example, the DRE Xavier C3 Portable LED headlight provides up to 50,000 hours of three-watt light that moves to wherever the clinicians needs it. The Xavier C3’s lithium battery pack provides 7.5 hours of light approximately 600 recharges.

The DRE Vision LED Surgery Light is more similar to the Maxx Luxx, but the device is better suited to smaller procedures and surgeries. Like the Maxx Luxx, the DRE Vision LED is available in various ceiling, floor and wall configurations.
