Effective July 1, 2016, any practicing dentist in the state of Colorado whose facility administers moderate or general anesthesia must utilize a functioning EtCO2 monitor. This is in addition to the use of a pulse oximeter during procedures and recovery.
The state’s new guidelines were drafted in the wake of widespread adoption of capnography monitoring by various medical specialities, including the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Heart Association.
Capnography monitoring is considered a safer alternative to traditional, standalone pulse oximetry by medical professionals everywhere. During a procedure requiring moderate to heavy anesthesia, abnormal CO2 readings can indicate the first sign of respiratory distress — long before a pulse oximeter would catch any potential problems.
Is Your Facility Ready?
DRE has helped many facilities ease the transition to required capnography monitoring by providing cost-effective, easy-to-use equipment that will integrate into any facility’s existing workflow. We carry a selection of monitors to help your facility remain compliant with new capnography regulations.
The DRE Waveline Touch is a top-selling monitor with a user-friendly touchscreen, allowing clinicians to easily navigate menus. In addition to multi-lead ECG monitoring, the DRE Waveline Touch offers both SpO2 and EtCO2.
For a unit with a slightly smaller touchscreen, see our DRE Waveline EZ MAX. The Waveline EZ MAX features a fan-less design for quiet operation throughout the procedure and recovery process. Also features SpO2 and EtCO2 monitoring.
The DRE Waveline EZ is the most portable unit of its kind available from DRE. It weighs just six pounds, allowing clinicians to easily transport and set up the Waveline EZ in any procedure suite. SpO2 and EtCO2 are also available on this unit. A wide variety of cannulas and other monitoring accessories are also available through DRE.
